Beginning Wheelthrowing

No experience necessary! If you are still working on centering and the basic steps of throwing, we recommend taking this class again for more practice.

Wheelthrowing 102: Beyond the Basics

Students should have some previous wheel throwing experience (If you are still working on centering and the basic steps of throwing, we recommend taking another beginner class for more practice).

Skills Needed:
• Clear understanding of the basic steps of throwing - centering, drilling a hole, opening, lifting
• Ability to throw a cylinder and bowl (at minimum)
• Some experience with trimming and making attachments
• Some experience with glazing

Wheelthrowing 103: Intermediate / Advanced, Advanced Independent Projects

Skills Needed:
• Ability to manage clay at various stages of dryness
• Understanding of important ceramic vocabulary/terminology
• Understanding of cone system
• Understanding of glazing best practices and how to minimize common glazing issues
• Ability to throw pieces with even and consistent walls
