One day handbuilding workshops

From planters to mugs to bowls, each workshop is 2 hours, all inclusive and has easy step by step instruction designed for beginners who have never touched clay before.

Your project is fired and glazed for you by BHCS staff and available for pick up at the studio in 3-4 weeks. Our workshops are a great activity for friends, partners and families! Workshops are suitable for kids 16 and over with an accompanying adult (Check out our
kids programming for younger kiddos).

A note on sliding scale: We wanted to make art experiences accessible to as wide an audience as possible, so our handbuilding workshops are all priced in 3 sliding scale tiers. No matter what tier you select, you will have the same fun workshop experience!

If you are unfamiliar with how sliding scale fees work, we ask that you take a look at this graphic to get a sense of where you fall on the scale.

    MAKE YOUR OWN MUG

In this fun beginner-friendly workshop, you'll make a slab built functional mug perfect for your favorite beverage. Using a variety of stamps and textures, you’ll be able to personalize your mug to be as unique as you!

  • A pair of hands carefully adjusts a coil built planter made of clay.

    FANTASTIC PLANTERS

In this fun beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll create a unique clay planter for your houseplants using slab and coil building techniques. Building this way will allow you to create interesting, funky shapes that are one of a kind!

  • A birds' eye view of someone pinching a small bowl made a clay. The bowl has colored glass beads embedded in it.

    GLASS FUSION BOWLS

In this fun beginner-friendly workshop, we will handbuild a bowl and then embed a variety of glass beads in the soft clay. Once pieces are fired, the glass beads will melt and combine with our copper rich glaze to create a beautiful geode-like effect on the surface.

  • WALL PLANTERS

In this fun beginner-friendly workshop, you'll make a wall pocket perfect for a small plant, dried flowers, your keys or whatever else you can think of! We will use a variety of stamps and textures to create interesting surfaces on the clay.

  • Get Lit: Make a Lantern

In this fun beginner-friendly workshop, we will use the slab building technique to create a container that a candle can be placed in. Participants will create a design, considering negative space, pattern, and structural integrity. We will then carefully cut out the clay to make a luminary which casts beautiful shadows from the lattice cutouts in the clay.
